Land mines hamper relief efforts in Batticaloa

It’s about 2/3 of the way down the page.

Short version. It’s on the east side of the island, and during the civil war, land mines were laid. In some areas, land mines were cleared and it was safe.

However. The tsunami dislodged the land mines, and so now, the area is no longer safe.

Adding insult to injury, there have also been reports that several lorries, or trucks as I’m used to calling them, were hijacked by gunmen.

Oh joy.
