I took these pics of our neighborhood gray purple-faced langur monkeys yesterday afternoon. It started with a noise up on the roof, then Fahim saw a monkey through the window, so we went outside to our balcony to see what all the fuss was. And these pics of the gray purple-faced langur monkey are the result.
Our neighborhood monkeys frequently travel by power lines or telephone lines. That the telephone lines haven’t collapses or torn free from the houses or telephone poles because of the monkey’s weight surprise me greatly – they sure don’t look that sturdy!
If you’re interested in this particular monkey’s gender, he appears to be a he, if the pink sticky outy in his crotch is to be believed (see pics 11-14).
Edited to add: I appear to be having some technical difficulties displaying the images. Uh… I’ll get this fixed as quickly as I can. Sorry! Fixed! It was a, uh, *cough* user error of sorts, but it’s all fine now. Whew!
And, as always, all imagese are hyperlinks to larger pictures in my photo album. If you want to see a particular image in the larger form, simply click on the image in this blog entry.
CORRECTION:
The Gray Langur monkeys mentioned above are actually Purple-Faced Leaf Monkey, aka Purple-Faced Langur Monkey (Trachypithecus vetulus).
These are fun! Adam loves “he-has” as he calls them (I think from the monkey noises I made once…). We went over to the gallery to see the big pictures, and I made the mistake of saying, “All you can see on this one is the monkey’s bum and his tail.” After that, it was “he-ha bum” and “he-ha tail.” teeheeha!
Adam sounds positively delightful. 🙂
