This plant has been positively identified as a croton (Codiaeum variegatum) by Sara Chapman in the comments. Thanks, Sara. 🙂 The croton is native to south Asia.

Ah, croton. Yes, I googled that, and the images sure fit. I didn’t know the name, so thank you for that. 🙂 We have a few of them with different colour variations in our garden.
