No real Christmas trees are sold in Sri Lanka

They’re all a figment of your imagination. Or mine. Or whoever thinks they’re buying one.

No, really.

What’s passed off as Christmas trees here are really just cuttings from overgrown Cyprus trees. It said so on the news today.

But someone – in government, by the looks of things – has proposed setting up Christmas tree farms so that the 1000 cuttings sold each year can be trees instead.

Hmm. Food for thought.

Personally, I’m a fake Christmas tree person myself. More environmentally friendly. Cheaper. Less of a fire hazard.

But that’s just me. 🙂
