Pyramid schemes are becoming illegal here. (We received a notice from the bank about this a while back.)

And bank directors will no longer be allowed to sit on the board of two banks. (Although I can’t imagine why that was permitted before. . .)

Rabies risk has increased as the stray population has increased by an estimated 100 thousand dogs in the coastal areas due to the tsunami. (This begs the question – how many stray dogs were there in Sri Lanka before? I know there are a lot – there are a couple of dozen in my neighborhood, and by neighborhood, I mean my street and one additional street in every direction. The dogs are everywhere.)

The southern rail service will be back on track by March with an estimated repair bill of 1.6 billion Rupees, or $16 million US.
