Green Gram for Brekkie

First thing you need to know – green gram here is mung beans in North America. This is the first time we’ve cooked the whole green beans for breakfast, and I’m curious to see how it’ll turn out.

Green Gram

1 cup green gram (mung beans)

2 cups water

1 teaspoon salt

Boil until the green gram is soft but not splitting. Makes four servings.

Fahim was in charge because he knew how it was supposed to turn out, and he cooked it until the green grams were bursting open and mushy and there was no water left in the bottom. Ideally, there should be water left over which he says can be drunk like a tea, add sugar if necessary. Then we added a bunch of sugar, and yeah, it was pretty good. Probably next weekend we’ll cook it again, but not as long. And yes, we made too much – on Fahim’s instructions. But that was okay – we’ll have the leftovers for breakfast tomorrow.
