Sri Lankan Movies

Sri Lanka’s first television stations came into existence sometime in 1978 or 1979.

I think the obvious conclusion you can reach is that no one in Sri Lanka had television before then. There was no point. What are you gonna watch? Snow?

But then, since there are now television stations here, it’s time to start producing their own movies and television shows. But can they afford color film?

Nope.

So it’s all in Black and White.

Okay, maybe not all, but mostly. There were, apparently, some color movies, but color movies were not common until the mid-1980s.

How did I learn all this?

One day, about three weeks or so ago, an old Sri Lankan movie came on television and Fahim started watching it and talking about it. The movie was from the early 80s and it was in black and white.

Just so ya know, ya know? And for no other good reason but.
