Kana Koka

Yeah, not talking about a can of cola beverage. 😀

Kana koka or Indian Pond Heron (Ardeola grayii)Kana Koka or Indian Pond Heron (Ardeola grayii) isn’t a frequent visitor to our house that I’ve seen. I’ve probably only seen him a couple or three times.

From reading the Wikipedia article on the Indian Pond Heron, it looks like they have non-breeding plumage and breeding plumage. Translation: they look different depending on whether it’s breeding season or not. The pictures I have of them are of them in their non-breeding outfits.

On the other hand, given how lousy my memory is and that I just found out about their change of clothes about a half hour ago, it’s entirely possible that I *do*, in fact, have a picture of the Kana Koka in their breeding outfits.

The Kana Koka visited us at the first house we lived at, too. Here one is, standing on the outside wall. This photograph was taken on 12 November 2003.

This next one was taken a couple of months later on 18 January 2004.

And now we have the ones taken this past January, four months ago.

Today is Flying Friday. That means I showcase some kind of flying creature – birds, insects, bats… – that I’ve seen and hopefully photographed every Friday.

And because I like looking at other people’s pretty and/or interesting pictures, too, I’d love it if you joined me. Please leave a comment with the URL (permalink) to your blog post featuring a flying creature, hopefully with a photo.

C’mon, you want to join in. You know you do. 😀
