The first time Fahim and I came to Singapore was way back in 2007. We came to Singapore on businesss, work for a client. The client needed us to help man a booth at CommunicAsia.
We stayed in a hotel just off Orchard Road, which is Singapore’s central shopping district. If you love shopping, you’ll love Orchard Road.

This was the view from our hotel room. Well, from the second night. We changed rooms the day after we arrived – the first night, we were checked into a room with two twin beds, hardly suitable for an old married couple. Or, at least, this old married couple.

One evening, we went out for dinner in the Clarke Quay area. There are dozens of seafood restaurants that line the river there. And naturally, I had to take this photo. You know, because. 🙂

Of course, I had to take this photo for similar reasons. 🙂

Then I noticed the gecko on the signboard. The more things change, the more things stay the same…

At the expo hall, these guys were walking around. Which, naturally, had me amused.

And this is what I saw one day when we were walking around. A sidewalk sale for stainless steel restaurant wares.

And I was impressed by how much green space Singapore has. Greenery everywhere.
We didn’t fall in love with Singapore on our first visit. We had a difficult time finding halal food for Fahim, which was the biggest drawback for us – not enough restaurants were listed as halal on the Internet back then. It’s much easier now to find halal food, but whether it’s just because the information is easier to find or because more restaurants are now halal, we don’t know, but I’m guessing it’s the information that’s easier to find.
