The only well near Karhod village in Madhya Pradesh state is several miles away, and the women spend hours a day fetching water. Then in summer, the well dries up, causing even greater difficulty, the Economic Times paper reported on Tuesday.
"In rural India, it is the duty of women to fetch water. When people come to know that their daughter will have to trudge several miles to fetch a couple of pots of water after marriage, which parent will agree?" the paper quoted one sociologist as saying.
Can’t say as I’m really all that surprised.
