I’ve had a lot of emails from people asking where to donate, so I have consolidated all the information I have at present onto this page.
Please note that I have not personally verified the reliability or authenticity of any of these charitable organizations, nor have I checked how much money donated to them actually go to those in need.
Specifically about charitable organizations in south Asia – there are no governing bodies that I am aware of to verify that they are actually charitable organizations. I do not know if they are legitimate, nor do I know where the money they receives go to. Corruption is a huge problem in many areas in south Asia, and Sri Lanka is no exception to that rule. I do not endorse any charitable organization in any way.
Please only donate to a charitable organization that you trust and are comfortable with.

Bold grades next to some charities reflect the American Institue of Philanthropy’s rating for that charity. All that means is that those charities meet the institute’s requirements: at least 60% of their budget goes to program services, and charities should spend no more than $35 to raise $100. This doesn’t mean that the other charities are crooked, but be aware that there are people who will take advantage of this disaster to steal your money. Give to an established charity with a proven track record.
