There’s a tree just outside our front yard. It grows prolifically, so even though it was cut back around 6 or 8 months ago, its limbs are again reaching our house and the telephone and power lines. This tree has pretty pink flowers that a lot of local birds love to feed on, as do the gray purple-faced langur monkeys.
Edited to add:
It appears that this flower and tree, the tree being about 30 feet high, is an Orchid Tree, native to the Indian subcontinent and other parts of South Asia, Bauhinia variegata “Rubra”. Many thanks to @kitterztoo and her geekiness. We loves geekiness, we does. 😀
CORRECTION:
The Gray Langur monkeys mentioned above are actually Purple-Faced Leaf Monkey, aka Purple-Faced Langur Monkey (Trachypithecus vetulus).
Not that we can smell, but it must taste good or all the birds, squirrels, and monkeys wouldn’t be munching on them. 🙂
Pretty! Do the blossoms have an aroma?
What kind of flowers are they? They look familiar somehow…
Happy WW!

I don’t know what it’s called, nor does my husband. I’ve asked. Many times. 😀
I’ve tweeted, asking for help in identifying it. Hopefully someone will come along who knows.
Joanne, the tree has been identified as the orchid tree. I updated the post to reflect that, along with links to pages about the orchid tree. 🙂
