Picking Flowers

man picking flowers off a tree, Sri LankaA man is picking flowers off the neighbor’s tree.

This happens often enough, either with flowers or leaves or whatever. Maybe the flowers are good for treating some kind of illness or other according to Ayurvedic tradition. Maybe the leaves will be made into a mallung or sambol. Maybe the leaves have religious significance and will be left at a temple.

  1. Another typical sri lankan act. Hundreds of flowers are picked and left laying at an alter without any thought for the butterflies, birds and bees who feed on them.

One person doing it might not cause much harm, but in each village/town hundreds of people go out in the morning and evening looking for flowers to steal.

Yep, that’s how it’s done, steal flowers and offer them to the gods.
