Garbage Collection in Sri Lanka

It’s supposed to be twice a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays for this neighborhood.

Because we now live on the top of a fairly steep hill, albeit a short one, we’ve gotten used to garbage being picked up only once a week – Saturdays. The garbage guys don’t like driving their truck up this hill. I can sorta understand it. Sort of.

But lately, it’s been… Three weeks.

Three long weeks without garbage collection.

I suggested to Fahim that we call the department of sanitation or whatever garbage collection is called. He laughed. Like they care, he says. Like they’ll do anything about it, he says.

Sigh.

I tried.
