Here I am, minding my own business, comparing results between two search engines – Cuil and Google if you’re interested. And of course, I use my own name for the test.
What do I find?
Back last January, I submitted a test article to a person who was looking at hiring news article writers for a few of his websites. My test article, which he did not pay for and for which we did not discuss him either using or paying, is up on his site. As is Fahim’s test article.
Now, Fahim did actually write articles for the guy for a week or so until Fahim realized that this just didn’t suit him, and Fahim did get paid for those articles. Mostly. But that’s another story. But the test article was not included in payment, nor was it discussed between Fahim and this guy, either.
And yet both my test article and Fahim’s test article show up on one of this guy’s site. Both attributed to me, as it happens.
I have no idea if this is a simple mistake on this guy’s part or if he just doesn’t care. I’ve emailed him and I’m waiting to hear back.
But I’m not impressed.
Here’s the thing. If you don’t get explicit permission (in writing, via email, something), then you don’t have permission. Period.
This is not complicated. It really isn’t.
