The kindness and generosity of Internet strangers continues to astound me. The victim of the kindness and generosity? Me. The method used? Chocolate.
We can get chocolate here, and even some somewhat decent chocolate, if you include Mars Bars and its ilk.
In the past, I’ve bought couverture chocolate at the local grocery store. Oddly, it had vegetable oils and other things added that *shakes head* totally ruined the mouth-feel for me. Once, and once only, I found couverture (not dark, and not what I think is called couverture in the west) that had actual cocoa butter added instead of vegetable oils, and that made a really nice ganache.
But semi-sweet or dark chocolate? Absolutely not. And, you know, I’m not whining about not having really good upscale chocolate – the medium grade good stuff works for me.
No chocolate chips even.
Put this into context. Like, cocoa is grown here. Sri Lanka is a major exporter of cocoa, cocoa butter, and the like. So why is it so difficult to get the decent stuff here?
So I whine about this occasionally. Yeah, can’t help it.
And a writer at the Absolute Write community heeded the call and sent me chocolate. Ah, what an angel!
And better still, it’s just in time for my birthday next week! Uh, if it lasts that long…

I gave up chocolate months ago and I don’t miss it. I thought that I would.
Can I take my last statement back? After reading your post the only thing I can think of is chocolate. Oh my! I’m weakening.
