I’m getting frustrated.

It doesn’t help that Fahim keeps muttering and exclaiming and talking to me while I’m trying to concentrate. *sigh* Okay, yeah, I do the same to him, so it’s fair…

I’ve been trying to get a template working so I could migrate the blogs over to MT, but I’ve hit brick walls.

I first tried converting an existing template to 3 column, and that I figured out fairly well, but trying to customize it… sheesh! That particular .css file was sooooo… convoluted I couldn’t find the code for the blog entry so I could alter the color of the text! White on a very very pale green does not work!

It was also fixed width, whereas I prefer fluid – I hate it when web sites try to force me to use their site at a width that they dictate. Especially when their site is wider than my screen allows. Not everyone has 17" monitors, dudes!

But that .css was so… convoluted, as I mentioned before, that to make it fluid, I’d likely have to alter widths in at least a dozen different places that I found in the first five minutes of looking, and I doubt I got them all.

Urgh.

So I found another site that actually has attractive templates, 3 columns & fluid widths (among others). Finally!

Well, unfortunately, finding the .zip file with the templates in them took a while, and after I downloaded it, I got a corruption error, so I’m not entirely sure which files have a problem, or…

I took a gamble and tried using it, but… *more heavy sighs* I’m having trouble figuring out what to do. Seriously. I just don’t know.

If I could get the templates installed, it would be another, oh, 5-10 minutes work past that to customize it to my use (changing some colors and adding a banner) and then I’d be good to go. It ain’t working out that way, though. :(

Me is not a happy camper. :(

Edited to add: Me is might be a happy camper. :)

The guy from the site who has the templates I like just emailed me (I whined through his on-site contact form) and he responded with a set of instructions. So, I’m going to take them for a whirl and see what happens. *crosses fingers* *crosses toes* *crosses all other appendages for good luck* *can’t use the lappy anymore :( *

Edited once more to add… Me is indeed a happy camper. I had a couple of initial problems, but with next to no muss and very little fuss, I got it working. Yay!

This template is beautiful, and it works! And… Well, anyway, it means that I’ll see if I can upgrade this site tonight. Of course, we still have to eat sometime, and bedtime isn’t that long from now… But it’s looking hopeful that I’ll get the site switched over to MT very very soon now.

Yay!
