Fixing the Blog Design

I’ve been working on fixing the design here – adding some features and fixing others. Mostly, it’s fun, but sometimes, it’s a slog and it’s confusing, what with my lack of php knowledge.

I also need to upgrade this site to the latest release of WordPress. Yep, I’m still using Blog, but with WordPress on the domain, it adds functionality and prettiness.

Yep, I know, most of those with blogs have them hosted on a blogging site, like WordPress or Blogger or Xanga or LiveJournal. It’s easier to use with less of a hassle. Sure, I understand that. But there’s a trade off.

There’s always a trade off.

By posting my blog through Blog and hosting it on my own site, I have complete control of exactly how it looks and functions. I don’t have to pay extra to have more than 15 or so templates or to create my own. I have a copy of my blog entries on my own computer and I can backup those files anytime I want to where ever I want. And I have full access to all stats.

Hmm. Yeah, I think that’s about it.

And happily, Fahim is coding Blog again to fix a few things and add some more features, including categories that will sink with a WordPress installation, so I’ll be able to use categories again.

Of course, that also means I’ll have to go back over all my previous entries and assign categories to every entry.

Yeah, a bit of work. Ah well, that’s the life. :p
