If you’re interested in Dvorak, here are some more resources you can look up.
The Fable of the Keys – an expose, if you will, on the myths surrounding Dvorak and his studies in sham.
The Straight Dope on Was the QWERTY keyboard purposely designed to slow typists?
Keymileage, which calculates just how far your fingers have to travel to type . . . well, whatever you’re typing. It shows that Dvorak has a consistent 38% savings over Qwerty. Hmm.
Then there’s this page, which is mostly links to other stuff on Dvorak. Lots and lots of links.
And lastly, this page, which is pretty much one person’s geeky experiment (which I sooo respect and admire) on Qwerty vs. Dvorak vs. another keyboard which is even more efficient. Seriously geek approach. Cool!
Wait! Wait! There’s one more! It’s a free online typing course for learning Dvorak. Not as pretty as Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor (not the 2.4.1 version – that one is downright ugly – I mean the later one.)
This typing course is bare bones, assumes you already know the basics of touch typing, and doesn’t time anything. No way to assess typing speed and/or error percentage.
Nevertheless, if you’re motivated enough, it’ll work. And later, you can find a free typing test to find out how fast you type.
Yeah, baby!
