One writing site I frequent, WVU, has a writing course – F150, Design Your Own Novel Program, suggests the following for a set-yer-own-schedule writing plan.

Marathon Novel Writing Program – 30 days or less:

  • 30 days of writing

Fast Track Program:

  • 1 week planning
  • 1 week research
  • 6 weeks writing

Standard Program:

  • 1 week research
  • 2 weeks character development
  • 2 weeks structure planning
  • 1 week research
  • 5 weeks writing
  • 1 week adjustment planning
  • 4 weeks writing

26 week novel writing program:

  • 1 week research
  • 2 weeks character development
  • 2 weeks structure planning
  • 1 week research
  • 10 weeks writing
  • 2 weeks adjustment planning
  • 8 weeks writing

As I contemplate the next novel I’d like to write, I wonder which is the most reasonable plan for me to follow.

I would like this novel to be different. I would like to plan it much better. Maximize success.
